Emile-Maurice Hermès first designed the Hermès Bolide bag in 1923 for his wife. An Hermès lover’s must-have, it was the first bag to use a zipper closure and is still one of the most recognised and idolised designs.

Understated elegance, this classic Bolide may be vintage (1996) but its in an incredible condition for a piece of this age.

 

Condition -  Very Good

 

 Details -

 Still beautifully firm and structured, though not hard sided, crafted from a fabulously grained Ardennes hide, its entirely colour consistent and apart from a few barely there fingernail scuffs, there's no external waer whatsoever.

Gentle natural smoothing to the corner curves, there's a light curved fingernail scuff to the reverse upper RH side of the bag, one to the middle RH base and a small scratch by the upper LH foot, (see photos above). Only just about visible if you angle the bag away from you so the light catches.

Top handles are well shaped and firm, detachable shoulder strap excellent also.

Hardware is very good with the usual light hairline scratching, no oxidisation, tarnish or plating loss. The embossed zipper pull displays some friction rubbing and the inking, (edge sealent) around the leather attachement has worn and dried a little. All entirely strong and without issue though.

The main reason this beautiful Bolide hasn't achieved an Excellent rating is due to the general signs of use to the smooth, calf leather interior. Light fingernail scuffs and lots of surface impressions, there is no detriment, just the natural ageing of a piece that has been cared for incredibly well.
