The story behind

"Chased by a leopard, the vervet or green monkey turns toward the predator, with a worried look on its face. In Zulu culture, the former symbolizes royalty, the latter wit and humor. Immense sugarbushes, national flowers of South Africa, encircle the two protagonists of this scene framed by a border of "amazumpa" motifs characteristic of Zulu pottery. Little immediate evidence of use, its precise, still smooth with only the very slightest of surface pilling and all rolled stiched edges are perfect.

On very close inspection, there is a single 9cm, vertical, linear ladder* to the weave caused by a small loop pull. Often found on these pieces from New and completely unnoticable in use.
